Maurizio Avella

The Dott. Maurizio Avella received his bachelor's degree in Chemistry, at the University of Studies
of Naples in 1978.


Since 1983 he is a researcher at the Institute of Chemistry and Technology of Polymers (ICTP) of CNR - Pozzuoli (NA). Since 2001 he holds the position of senior researcher. During 1988 he worked at the School of Materials Science at the University of Bath (England) as an associate researcher. During this period he carried out research on the preparation and characterization of new composite materials with a matrix phenolic resins "cold treatment." In 1996 Dr. Avella he went to the USA at the Center for Advanced Materials Processing of Clarkson University in Potsdam - State of New York by taking advantage of a scholarship as part of an international exchange program financed by the CNR.

  • From 1 January 1997 to 31st December 1998, he was scientific coordinator of a CRAFT project funded by the European Community entitled "New Materials deriving from Cellulosic Fibers, Agricultural Commodities and Wastes".
  • From 1 February 1997 to 31st January 2000, he was scientific coordinator of a BRITE project funded by the European Community entitled "Integration of Conventional Polymers with Ceramic Nanoparticles to produce Structural Composites with enhanced Performances".
  • From 1 January 1999 to 31 December 2000 is responsible for the scientific IRTEMP, the CRAFT research project entitled "Structural Products from Recycled Cellulose" coordinated by 'University of Central England in Birmingham.
  • From 1 January 1999 to 31 December 2004 has been scientific responsible for the operational unit at the CNR IRTEMP a FAIR project funded by the European Union entitled "Biodegradable nanocomposite Food Packaging" coordinated by TNO in Eindhoven Netherlands.
  • Since March 1, 2001 to February 28, 2005 he was scientific responsible for the operational unit at the CNR IRTEMP of a project "Quality of Life" funded by the European Community entitled "Biodegradable Plastic for environmentally friendly and low mulching cultivation tunnel".

  • From 15 September 2005 to 14 September 2009 he was scientific responsible for the operational unit CNR at ICTP a CRAFT project entitled: "Development of Innovative Particleboard (chipboard) Panels for a better mechanical performance and a lower environmental impact" .
  • Since October 2009 to date is a member of the expert group at the International Life Science Institute (ILSI) (Brussels) that studies the phenomena of food from its migration to food.
  • From June 2010 to 30 November 2012, he was an international co-ordinator of the Project MED entitled "TEMA - Technology-based Environmental Enterprises Market Approach".
  • From January 2010 to 31 July 2012 he has been scientific responsible for the operational unit CNR at the ICTP of a LIFE + project entitled: "Boatcycle Management, recycling and recovery of wastes of recreational boat scrapping"
